3 Fast Things
I feel bad because last week I wrote how I didn’t feel like writing three fast things and low and behold, I don’t feel like writing them again. Well, it’s not that I don’t feel like writing them, it’s that I have not allowed myself enough time to write them or even think about them. My life is a little chaotic at the moment and disruption is the enemy of good habits.
Did I tell you guys I was doing improv? I might have mentioned it along the way. I’m doing the Level 4 course with Improv Theatre Sydney. They’re a cool little company I’ve been training with for a few years now. Courses are expensive but the teaching and learning experience is great. I can see how my hard spent cash is going into developing the business and that’s nice. Improv Theatre Sydney is in Redfern and the theatre is being renovated into a much less rundown old gym hall and into a much more legit and warm space for audiences and performers.
Last week I wrote about my eating habits and how I am trying to change my thinking and approach to food in order to have a much healthier and happier coexistence with the stuff. But just in the last week I kind of realised I actually have quite severe obsessive and compulsive thoughts around food and also my body. Like something that takes up way more brainpower than it should. I am going to talk about how I plan to overcome that in next week’s newsletter. You’re welcome.
1 Slow Thing: Meet Freya Reviews
Freya, or Freya Reviews as we know her on the scene (I don’t know her last name, this is her stage name) is an up-and-coming Sydney-based comedian who writes a blog and kills at MCing and crowd work. And she’s just an all about chipper chick.
I met Freya at the end of last year when she was MCing a show for Sandbox, John Glover’s open mic room which, sadly, no longer exists. John couldn’t be there so asked if I could go early and set up all the techie stuff, which was very helpful of me indeed.
So I was there early doing tech stuff and Freya was there early doing MC stuff and I just want to give her a little praise here because her vibe is massive and I was super compelled to her energy.
I mean, sure, we had a lot to bond over considering we both studied the exact same TV Production course at CSU in Wagga Wagga, we both like writing and have blogs, we both do stand-up, and we both have the same gingery hair and pail complexion. But we only discovered all this bar the physical features because she was so open and interested and pleasant as a human being. I’m more an awkward turtle type.
Then I saw her MCing on stage and just totally owning the room. It was hilarious to see her turn from the kindest sweetest hearted soul to like, a bit of a sassy bitch on stage. Audience loved it. I think she’s heading into some big places with the Australian media. She’s got a great TV voice. She’d doing all the right things.
And you know what, here’s me calling it out. Making a prediction. Watch this space. I think you’ll be hearing of and seeing a lot more of Freya down the line.

Recommendation
Listen: Don’t laugh but I recommend Spare by Prince Harry. I say listen because it’s much quicker than reading (listen in 1.5x). I’m not sure I’d have wanted to spend my time reading this averagely ghostwritten piece of memoir, but having him tell me his story in his own voice has been enjoyable and felt nice and real. I do really feel for him and the emotional trauma he has experienced in the course of his very privileged and interesting life. It is absolute bullshit some of this monarchy stuff. #teamharry
