3 Fast Things
Hello from España, where I am settled for the week. I’m learning Spanish at the school on the corner and sharing a twin room with my best mate from high school. Hashtag, never grow up. It’s really sweet. We are staying in the home of a 70-year-old woman who cooks dinner for us every night. She also knocks on our door in the morning when she believes we will be late for class. Mamacita, muy bonita.
Have you subscribed to my YouTube channel yet? I’m creating content, dawg. I have like, three videos in the pipeline, but in case you missed it, which you probably did, I posted this video on seeing JOE JOLLY ROGAN in Austin a few weeks back. Watch it. Like it. Message me to tell me you watched and liked it.
I have learned a little bit about glucose and insulin spikes lately. Heck, we need to lay off the bread. I’m now kind of worried that the hair I found on my chin is being caused by high testosterone levels which is caused by the inflammation caused by the insulin levels which is caused by the glucose spikes caused by the bread and sugar and alcohol and being a human in 2023.
1 Slow Thing: My Mindset Coach
I met Claudine by way of introduction (whatever that means) from one of my colleagues. She was interested in hearing my take on running the social media channels for Mark Manson. Given her huge credentials, interesting job, cool personality and all the good things my colleague said about her, I was more than happy to oblige.
As part of our knowledge exchange, she offered me a few sessions of mindset coaching, something I had absolutely zero wisdom on up until this point. And man, I’ll tell you what, it was worth it.
Claudine is like the straight-shooting, tell-you-how-it-is therapist everyone needs. But it’s probably worth mentioning that this was my experience with her and she adapts incredibly to suit the communication style of each client, which is a bloody skill in itself.
It’s amazing how her mind works to unravel yours. I’d be saying things—like things I think are problems of mine—like, I’m not very good at stand-up comedy. And she’s like, umm, are you meant to be? You only just started. I’m like, oh yeah, good point. And that sounds pretty low-fi because I oversimplified the fudoodles out of it, but this conversation was completely transformative for me in the way I approached comedy from the point forward.
I’d say, stuff like, “I just want a mindset hack for being more confident”. And she’d be like, “Hmm, a “hack” isn’t really what you’re looking for.”
Because what I learned is, these “hacks” we seek in life are just bandaids. They don’t solve any actual problems. The real hacks are speaking your thoughts out loud and then objectively ripping them apart down to their bare bones, only to realise how badly you are judging yourself, or lying to yourself, or stuck in unhelpful thought patterns—like thinking you’re meant to be a celebrity comedian after two shows.
See what I mean, therapy!
But this kind of stuff is really hard to do on your own. Unless, of course, you spend a lot of time self-teaching, or training with someone like Claudine.
Honestly, mindset coaching is just an amazing use of psychology to understand the human mind. And I dig it. Thus, I was humbled and honoured to bring her on as my final guest for the first season of Learning from Them.

Upcoming Shows
On a wee break until I return from travels. I tried to do one in Tyler, TX. But the boys spent too long at the theme park, didn’t they.
Recommendation
Watch: This is really impressive. Michelle Khare is total badass, her vids are her challenging herself mentally, psychologically, emotionally, physically. I wish I had this sort of wisdom and gusto when I was starting Comfort is for Wimps. Anyhoo, she did this episode on becoming a pro boxer and it was an awesome watch.
